I have to consider difference a lot. How I’m different from people here and whether I want to claim that difference or strive for sameness and conformity. Today a policeman approached me at the school festival and said, “You go to hotel with me.” I declined him both times. Did my difference (in being American and not Khmer) allow him to ask? Or did my difference allow me to refuse?
